五谷饭/Rice with five grains / 오곡밥...2016. ( 2 )

On the Daeboreum (literally "Great Full Moon") is a Korean festival  that celebrates the first full moon of the new year of the lunar Korean calendar, we visited my eldest sister. She gave me the lunch box to bring back home. She prepared 9 kinds of vegetables, thumb up !

Daeboreum (literally "Great Full Moon") is a Korean holiday that celebrates the first full moon of the new year of the lunar Korean calendar which is the Korean version of the First Full Moon Festival. This holiday is accompanied by many traditions. The 2016 date is February 22 .

For breakfast on Daeboreum, Ogokbap (오곡밥 / 五穀밥), a five-"grain" rice consisting of rice, millet, Indian millet, beans, and red beans is served (gokincludes grains and beans). This is eaten with various dried herbs. One of the special foods of Daeboreum is Yaksik (약식 / 藥食). This treat is made of glutinous rice, chestnuts, pinenuts, honey, sauce, and sesame oil. Also there is drinking for Daeboreum. It called 'Ear-quickening wine(귀밝이술)'. This alcohol means that if someone drank this alcohol, he or she would be quick to hear and hear good news for one year.

One familiar custom is to crack nuts with one's teeth. It is believed that this practice will help keep one's teeth healthy for the year.
In the countryside, people climb mountains, braving cold weather, trying to catch the first rise of the moon. It is said that the first person to see the moon rise will have good luck all year or a wish will be granted.
Historically, people played the traditional game named Jwibulnori (쥐불놀이) the night before Daeboreum. They burned the dry grass on ridges between rice fields while children whirled around cans full of holes, through which charcoal fire blazed. These cans fertilized the fields and got rid of harmful worms that destroyed the new crops.

五谷饭/Rice with five grains / 오곡밥...2016. (1)

Ogokbap or five-grains rice is a kind of Korean food made of a bowl of steamed rice mixed with grains including barley, foxtail millet, millet and soy beans] Ogokbap usually served during the end of winter, especially on the first full moon... of the year (jeongwol daeboreum). In the past, many Koreans ate foods lacking nutritional value during the long winter because such foods were scarce. Anticipating these problems, they dried the grains before the coming of the winter to fulfill the winter’s meals. On the night of jeongwol daeboreum, people would eat ogokbap with ingredients such as walnuts, chestnuts, pine nuts, and beans to provide them with adequate energy. Today, the concept of making ogokbap has been changing. Koreans make ogokbap with many different kinds of grains that do not necessarily mirror those traditionally used in the past. Ogokbap continues to be enjoyed by Koreans for its nutritious and healthful benefits。This are the good ingredients for "bibimbap".

On the eve of lunar calender Jan 15, Korean will take walnuts and ground nuts too. According to the traditional custom, after eating nuts, this will prevent to get skin disease; Korean will also drink a cup of wine, in order to have good hearing through out the year

On the day of "Daeboreum" , almost all the families in Korea will enjoy the Ogokbap, all the ingredients for the dishes are vegetables...........................................................

在元宵节,家家户户都在享用五谷饭,所有的菜肴,清一色是蔬菜,很清淡 。。
